On behalf of Premier Christy Clark and the Government of British Columbia, I would like to
congratulate the District of Wells on the reopening of Wells curling rink.
After many years of closure, it's fantastic to celebrate the restoration of this wonderful
community asset. The facility provides a great way to get exercise, develop healthy habits and create vital social connections that foster stronger families and communities.
This facility is also a significant revenue generator for Wells - as there's a long standing history of hosting bonspiels. These events are terrific for businesses and hotels. Visitors for these events give a boost to Wells's economy as they enjoy all the fine attractions the district has to offer.
The B.C. government is committed to supporting local governments in building important
amenities that provide opportunities for British Columbians of all ages to live healthy, physicallyactive lives. That's why Premier Clark introduced the $30‐million Community Recreation Program at UBCM in 2011. This investment is making a huge difference for British Columbians in the communities where they live and raise their families. We're proud to have contributed nearly $50,000 toward the restoration of Wells's curling rink through this program.
Projects like this are not achieved without the coordinated efforts and generous financial
contributions from a myriad of individuals, businesses and partners. I would like to thank the
District of Wells, as well as everyone else involved for their hard work, support and persistence in this restoration project.
Congratulations again to the District of Wells on the reopening of the curling rink. Its
restoration is a real testament to the fortitude of the people of Wells. I hope this facility will
provide much enjoyment for years to come.
Sincerely,
Bill Bennett
Minister of Community, Sport and Cultural Development
