The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure is rehabilitating and improving highways and bridges throughout the Lower Mainland.
The B.C. government will continue to invest in transportation infrastructure for the safe, reliable and efficient movement of people and goods.
In the Lower Mainland, many highway infrastructure upgrade projects are underway or were recently completed.
Highlighted projects include:
- Pattullo Bridge replacement, linking New Westminster and Surrey ($1.377 billion)
- Highway 91/17 and Deltaport Way program, including improvements to Highway 91, Highway 91 Connector, Highway 17, and Deltaport Way/27B Avenue ($260 million)
- Highway 1 upgrades between 216th Street and 264th Street in Langley ($205.5 million). Project is in the design stage with construction expected to begin in 2021
- Highway 1 Lower Lynn improvements in North Vancouver ($198 million). As part of this project:
- the new Mountain Highway Interchange was completed in summer 2020;
- construction is ongoing on the Keith Road/Mount Seymour Parkway Interchange and Lynn Creek Connectivity Improvement projects; and
- work to reconfigure the Dollarton Highway and Main Street Interchange is underway
- a new 216th Street Interchange and widening of Highway 1 to six lanes between 202nd Street and 216th Street, completed in summer 2020 ($61.9 million)
- construction underway on the Highway 17 North Surrey Commercial Truck Parking Facility ($30 million)
- Highway 1 resurfacing from Willingdon Avenue to Gaglardi Way, completed in 2020 ($9.3 million)
- Highway 7 corridor safety enhancements ($70 million), including:
- four-lane expansion with median barrier between Silverdale Avenue and Nelson Street near Mission (completed in summer 2020); and
- intersection improvements along the Haney Bypass in Maple Ridge
- Highway 11 Widening and Vye Road Overpass in partnership with Canada and the City of Abbotsford
- design and planning for the widening of Highway 7 between 266th and 287th streets in Maple Ridge
- a comprehensive suite of safety improvements on Highway 99 at the George Massey Tunnel, including better lighting and drainage, resurfacing the tunnel approaches and upgrading safety systems ($40 million)
- variable speed limit systems on Highways 1 and 3 in the Fraser Valley ($25 million)
