After reviewing all the relevant information, chief forester Jim Snetsinger decided to keep the allowable annual cut the same - at 21,000 cubic metres - for Tree Farm Licence 33.
Tree Farm Licence 33 covers 8,366 hectares of Crown land north of Sicamous along the eastern shore of Shuswap Lake, of which 6,768 hectares are considered part of the long-term timber harvesting land base. The majority of logging rights for Tree Farm Licence 33 is held by Federated Co-operatives Ltd. Logging activities are certified to the Sustainable Forestry Initiative's sustainable forest management certification standard.
Quick Facts:
- The chief forester's determination is an independent professional judgment based on information ranging from technical forestry reports, First Nations and public input to the government's social and economic goals.
- Under the timber supply review, the chief forester or deputy chief forester must determine how much wood can be harvested in each of the province's 37 timber supply areas and 34 tree farm licences at least once every 10 years.
- A new allowable annual cut may be determined earlier in response to abnormal situations, or postponed for up to five years if a current level is not expected to change significantly.
