This Mother's Day, why not take the family to a heritage site?
British Columbia has more than 150 years of pioneer and colonial history to discover at its many historic sites across the province. Families can ride a wagon at Fort Steele, see the water-powered mill at the Grist Mill in Keremeos or tour the gardens at the Point Ellice House.
Activities happening at heritage sites this Mother's Day include:
- Mother's Day Victorian-style Tea at Point Ellice House in Victoria (reservations required).
- Mother's Day lunch in the Harrison River Restaurant at the Kilby Historic Site in the Fraser Valley.
- Mother's Day Tea and guided tour of the Haney House in Maple Ridge.
- Special afternoon tea for Mom at the Britannia Mine Museum in Squamish.
- Alberni Pacific Railway's 2011 Mother's Day Wine Steam Train at the McLean Mill National Historic Site in Port Alberni.
Did You Know?
- The Peace Arch at the Surrey border crossing contains an inscription that reads, "Children of a Common Mother".
- St. Ann's Academy in Victoria is the provincial motherhouse of the Sisters of St. Ann.
- The Xa:ytem Transformer Stone near Mission is important in the Sto:lo culture. It represents the connectedness to Mother Earth.
