The Prince George Fire Centre responded to 13 new fire starts yesterday, all lightning-caused.

All fires starts occurred in the Fort Nelson zone. The largest reached 20 hectares in size and required air tanker support. No structures have been damaged and a large amount of rain in the area has helped to fight these fires, with more rain expected.

The fire danger rating through the Prince George Fire Centre is mainly very low to low. However, there are areas of moderate to high in the northern portion of the fire centre.

Quick Facts:

  • There are currently no open burning restrictions within the Prince George Fire Centre's jurisdiction. However, the public is urged to be extremely cautious when using fire outdoors. For the latest on burning restrictions, continue to check: http://bcwildfire.ca/hprScripts/WildfireNews/Bans.asp
  • Since April 1, fire crews have responded to 55 wildfires in the Prince George Fire Centre, with a provincial total of 188 wildfires.
  • To report a wildfire or unattended campfire, call *5555 on your cellphone or toll-free to 1 800 663-5555.
