British Columbia is deploying another 106 firefighters and wildfire management experts to assist with increasing wildfire activity in Ontario.
Twenty-seven initial attack crews and 25 specialists will depart for Dryden and Thunder Bay tomorrow, bringing the total number of B.C. personnel in Ontario to 469.
This is the fourth deployment to Ontario since July 11, for a total of 28 to other provinces this year. Deployments are co-ordinated through the Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Centre. The cost of each deployment is paid for by the requesting jurisdiction.
Quick Facts:
- Tomorrow's departure brings the total number of deployed personnel this season to 1,550.
- The biggest single deployment was to Alberta in May, when 611 B.C. firefighters helped fight wildfires in northern Alberta.
- Crews can be deployed for up to 19 days, but recalled at any time.
