As fire activity levels remain low in B.C., the Wildfire Management Branch continues to be able to deploy crews to Ontario.
This most recent export of 56 personnel includes five initial attack crews, two unit crews and one agency representative. They depart for Ontario today and will join 240 other B.C. crew members. This is the slowest start to a fire season in the last decade, allowing B.C. to send a record number of forest firefighting resources to other jurisdictions.
In the last three weeks, B.C. has sent 759 personnel to Ontario as that province continues to experience a challenging fire season.
The Wildfire Management Branch always maintains adequate firefighting personnel to respond to conditions in B.C. Personnel can be deployed for up to 19 days, but can be recalled at any time should conditions in B.C. change.
