The Cariboo Fire Centre is urging the public to be cautious with fire use as conditions become increasingly hot and dry.
There is currently a restriction on open burning within the Cariboo Fire Centre region. Specifically, this restriction prohibits:
- Burning any waste, slash or other materials - piled or un-piled - at a size larger than one metre by one metre
- Burning more than two open fires of any size at the same time
- Burning stubble or grass over any area or size
- Using fireworks or burning barrels of any size or description
Please ensure fires are not lit or kept burning during windy conditions, and that adequate tools, water and people are on hand to contain them. Fires must be fully extinguished before leaving an area.
So far this season, the Cariboo Fire Centre has responded to 35 fires, burning a total of 125 hectares. Of those fires, 27 have been confirmed as human-caused.
