NANAIMO - Thanks to more than $97,000 in provincial Brownfield Renewal funding two brownfield sites in Nanaimo can begin the process of redevelopment.
The Province is providing the City of Nanaimo with $50,750 to clean up Boxwood Road to improve transportation for residents and create new frontages. However, coal mining and debris dumping have resulted in contamination at the Boxwood site, and site investigation work and remediation are required before roadwork can begin. This grant will support environmental investigation and remediation planning.
Nanaimo Shipyards Limited is also receiving $47,776.40 to fund contamination site investigation and remediation planning at the Nanaimo Shipyards. This is the first step to transforming the site into a mixed-use, residential and commercial waterfront development.
These sites are just two of 16 successful projects across British Columbia awarded more than $730,000 through the Brownfield Renewal Funding Program today.
