"On behalf of all British Columbians, I want to express my condolences to Betty's husband Rolly, her children and friends.
"Betty Fox was a great Canadian and we are fortunate that she and the Fox family chose to share Terry's legacy of hope with the people of British Columbia, Canada and around the world. We are grateful for her selfless courage in the face of personal tragedy.
"It's been more than three decades since Terry Fox set out on his courageous Canada-wide marathon to raise awareness about cancer and to raise donations to help end cancer. As we all know, he passed away before he could complete his cross-country journey.
"Betty Fox and the rest of the Fox family devoted themselves to keeping Terry's dream alive. The Terry Fox Foundation's Marathon of Hope is in its 31st year and has become the world's largest annual one-day fundraiser for cancer research, with over $550 million dollars raised to date.
"Betty Fox embodied all the qualities that as British Columbians we admire and she will be sorely missed."
