"On behalf of all British Columbians, I would like to extend our thoughts and prayers to the citizens of the United States as we approach the solemn 10th anniversary of the 9/11 tragedy.
"In that shocking day that changed our world forever, Canada sheltered U.S. planes that couldn't return home and made her citizens welcome in our country; and our first responders rushed to help and relieve the fatigued first responders in New York. We did these things because this is what neighbours and friends do.
"The U.S. is our neighbour, our ally and our biggest trading partner. We share more than a border - we share ideals, values and freedom, and most importantly, we share a relationship born of years of peaceful co-existence and mutual respect.
"We continue to mourn the loss of twenty-four Canadians among the thousands of citizens from many countries who were fatefully in and around the World Trade Centre plaza, the Pentagon and on hijacked planes when terrorists struck at the heart of America. On September 11, we will hold their families and friends in our hearts."
