Premier Christy Clark issued the following statement in recognition of Women's History Month.
"This month we celebrate the remarkable contribution women are making within Canada's Armed Forces. Around the world, Canadian women stand side-by-side with their male counterparts in keeping our country safe and securing our sovereignty.
"From the first women who signed up as military nurses at the turn of the 20th Century to Captain Nichola Goddard, killed in Afghanistan in 2006, the bravery and dedication of women in the Royal Canadian Army, Navy and Air Force have had an enormous impact on our national identity.
"These courageous women prove that gender is no longer a barrier for those who wish to serve their country and give us all another reason to be proud to be Canadian.
"To all the women serving on land, sea and in the air, on behalf of all British Columbians, I salute your sacrifices and thank you for your service."
