Premier Christy Clark made the following statement in recognition of Foster Family Month and National Family Week Oct. 3-9.
"October marks the 21st year of celebrating Foster Family Month in British Columbia - a time to celebrate fostering and recognize the remarkable contribution foster families make in our communities and in the lives of children, youth and families throughout the province.
"I would like to express my heartfelt appreciation for the extraordinary work that foster families do every day to support children and youth in care. They take one of society's most important jobs by caring for children in need and opening their hearts to some of our most vulnerable citizens.
"This year, the start of Foster Family Month coincides with National Family Week, another opportunity to reflect on the many benefits of being part of a family. It is a chance to celebrate our strengths and successes, and an opportunity to remind us all that families matter.
"The most important element of a healthy society is healthy families. Governments at all levels can support families by promoting policies that help parents and children grow and thrive in positive, healthy environments. The government of B.C. is putting families first by considering our impact on families in every decision we make.
"I encourage all British Columbians to take time to recognize and support foster families who make a difference in your community."
