Premier Christy Clark and Solicitor General Shirley Bond issued the following statement after a volunteer firefighter in Enderby died while on duty today.
"We are deeply saddened to learn one of B.C.'s volunteer firefighters, Daniel Botkin, died while combating a blaze in Enderby," said Premier Christy Clark. "This is a heartbreaking day for his family, his community, and indeed all firefighters throughout the province.
"Firefighters set an incredible standard of heroism. They run toward dangers when the rest of us flee. And they respond to each call knowing they may risk their lives in order to save others."
"To volunteer for this duty, as Mr. Botkin did and hundreds of other volunteer firefighters do on a daily basis, epitomizes selfless devotion to the safety of their neighbours and communities," said Solicitor General Shirley Bond.
"On behalf of all British Columbians, we extend our heartfelt condolences to Mr. Botkin's spouse and family, and to his fire hall colleagues. We also express our deepest gratitude to firefighters across B.C. for their bravery and commitment to keeping our communities safe."
