The BC Coroners Service has identified the victim of a house fire in Vancouver in the early morning hours of Oct. 9, 2011.
Firefighters discovered the body of Ian Fraser Chalmers, aged 50, in the burned-out remains of the home at 795 West 23rd St.
Mr. Chalmers was a family member of the legal owner of the home, but did not reside there permanently.
Neighbours discovered the fire at about 3 a.m. on Oct. 9 and called the Vancouver Fire Department. When firefighters arrived, they found the single-storey home so full with items that they could not gain access to the interior.
Mr. Chalmers' body was discovered by firefighters in their continuing search of the home the next day.
The incident continues to be investigated by the BC Coroners Service, as well as the Vancouver Police and Fire departments.
