Minister of Public Safety and Solicitor General Shirley Bond offered the following statement in light of last night’s tragic plane crash in Richmond:
“We want to offer our deepest sympathy to the family, friends and colleagues of Mr. Luc Fortin, the pilot who succumbed to his injuries following this terrible crash. In time, I hope they are able to find solace in the extraordinary efforts of their loved one, which likely saved lives both onboard and on the ground.
“I also want to express our heartfelt gratitude to the many heroic passersby who - at great personal risk - rushed toward the burning wreckage and began pulling people from it. By all accounts, your actions helped to lessen injuries and may well have saved lives. On behalf of all British Columbians, I want to thank you.
“I would also like to thank the many first responders who attended quickly and professionally to ensure all passengers and crew got out and that the fire was extinguished as quickly as possible.
“Today, I know British Columbians’ thoughts are with those who remain hospitalized. We wish them all a rapid and full recovery.”
