The BC Coroners Service has confirmed the identity of the snowmobile operator who died in an avalanche northeast of Prince George on Nov. 13, 2011.

The deceased is Dallas Shane Mayert, aged 40, of Prince George.

Mr. Mayert and a friend were snowmobiling in the MacGregor / Torpy Recreation Area northeast of Prince George on the afternoon of Nov. 13 when Mr. Mayert was struck by a slab avalanche. His friend managed to make it out of the area uninjured.

Mr. Mayert's body was recovered on the afternoon of Nov. 14 after the area had been made safe for ground crews to enter through the use of explosives.

Investigation into the case continues.

The BC Coroners Service expresses sympathy to the family and friends of Mr. Mayert, and also appreciation to the avalanche technicians, search-and-rescue teams and volunteers who worked so diligently on the rescue and recovery efforts.
