Two contracts have been awarded that will result in improvements to highways and local side roads in the West Kootenays, benefitting families, tourists and commercial traffic.

Interoute Construction has been awarded a $2.89-million contract to resurface approximately 10 km of Highway 3A, from Boswell to Sanca Creek. Safety along this stretch of Highway 3A will be enhanced with continuous painted edge lines and the replacement of concrete roadside barriers. Also, approximately 1.5 km of Elsie Holmes Road will be paved.

Okanagan Aggregates has been awarded a $3.4-million contract to resurface approximately 11 km of Highway 6, from New Denver north to Hills. As part of this project, shoulders will be widened to improve pedestrian/cyclist safety and approximately six km of local area side roads will be improved. Local roads to be improved include:

  • Red Mountain Road
  • Bonanza Creek Road
  • Summit Road
  • Wensley Road
  • Crescent Bay Road
  • Beech Road

Work on both projects will begin this summer and will finish by the end of September. Motorists are advised to check DriveBC for information on construction delays at www.drivebc.ca
