Adventure Paving of Prince Rupert has been awarded a contract worth almost $1.6 million to resurface and improve the Towhill Arterial and Highway 16 through Masset on Haida Gwaii.
Approximately 7.5 km of the Towhill Arterial will be resurfaced, from the CFB radar station to the Blue Jacket subdivision just south of Masset. Towhill provides access to the popular hiking trails, beaches and ecological reserve in Naikoon Provincial Park.
Additional improvements include widening the shoulders on Highway 16 through Masset for a distance of 3.2 km. This shoulder widening will improve safety for pedestrians and cyclists in the community. Work is scheduled to begin in June and finish in August.

"The work on Towhill Road will improve access to Naikoon Provincial Park, where visitors come to enjoy some of the most spectacular old-growth hiking trails and best beachcombing in the world. As well, the improvements we're doing in Masset will help improve safety for pedestrians and cyclists on this important route through the community."
