Highway 97 between Chetwynd and Mackenzie Junction will reopen today at 7 p.m. with traffic piloted through the work zones from both the north and south ends.

A single lane will be open to passenger vehicles and to commercial vehicles with legal weights and dimensions, single trailer units only.

When travelling through this construction zone, motorists are asked to use caution, obey signage and follow the instructions of the traffic control personnel.

Fifteen sites along Highway 97 in the Pine Pass were damaged during a one-in-40-year rainfall event on June 25 and 26. Over 100 people, with over 60 pieces of equipment, are working to repair the highway. This includes the reconstruction of the road at several major washout sites.

Highway 29 between Chetwynd and Hudson Hope, which reopened July 1 to single-lane alternating traffic, is now open to two-way traffic.

The ministry and its maintenance contractors have been aggressively repairing damage from the rain storm. Roads in the Peace region were damaged in over 150 locations; about 70 per cent of the sites have been repaired and reopened.
