A picnic in the park in Rolla will be more enjoyable, following the volunteer efforts of Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure staff and employees at Caribou Road Services.
In late October, volunteers took to the park at the Rolla Community Hall. A picnic area was constructed with picnic tables placed on gravel and paving stones. The centrepiece of the improvements is a fire pit outlined by paving stones and gravel.
A commemorative plaque was reinstalled on the Rolla Community Hall monument, restoring it to its original condition. The site was cleaned and new grass seed was planted around the park improvements.
The volunteer group was made up of employees who live and work in the area. This was a great opportunity to give back to their community by creating a welcoming place to spend time with family, friends and neighbours.
This project is part of a provincewide community service initiative by the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure and its road and bridge maintenance contractors, members of the B.C. Road Builders and Heavy Construction Association.
Ministry staff have teamed up with road and bridge maintenance contractors throughout the province to volunteer their specialized skills and equipment for community enhancement projects at 28 locations across B.C.
