Government is responding to residents' concerns about increased traffic noise, by building a buffer along Highway 1 at Jackson Street.
Design and planning work are underway to build the wall, which will be approximately 250 metres long and two metres high. The ministry will determine the most cost-effective structure to use, either concrete or wood. The project is expected to be tendered in early January and complete by spring 2012.
This new sound wall will replace the landscaping that was removed to widen Highway 1 as part of the McCallum Interchange project, and will improve the quality of life for families in the neighbourhood.
