Facilities at Capilano University are being upgraded and modernized, thanks to $651,423 in capital funding that is part of government's investment in public post-secondary infrastructure this year.
The upgrades will ensure campus infrastructure and operational systems are performing at optimal levels, which is important to keep our campuses in top operating shape. Work will be carried out at the North Vancouver, Squamish and Sechelt campuses.
B.C. taxpayers are providing $38.3 million for Capilano University's operations this year - including an allowance for general infrastructure maintenance - up from $29.8 million in 2001-02. The number of funded student spaces at the university has increased 3.9 per cent over that time. Almost $25.4 million in capital investments have been made at Capilano since 2001, including a new digital media and film centre that opened this year.

"As somebody who spent a significant portion of my life in academia, I fully endorse such investments in B.C.'s post-secondary system. Maintaining our infrastructure is critical to our students' educational experiences and helps produce the skilled people we need in our workforce."
Kris Bulcroft, president, Capilano University -
"We are thankful for this funding as it is going to allow us to replace three hot-water heaters and some lighting upgrades that will reduce our greenhouse gas emissions.
