The Province is providing $75,000 to help the City of Port Alberni make local arts and culture an important part of the community's 100th anniversary celebrations, Community, Sport and Cultural Development Minister Ida Chong announced.
Funding will come from the 2010 Sport and Arts Legacy, established to carry on the spirit of community celebration that played such a key role in the success of the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. This funding is part of the $800,000 announced last week, aimed at helping B.C. communities make local arts and culture an important part of their upcoming milestone anniversary festivities.
The BC Arts Council, an independent agency of the Province of British Columbia, granted $54,700 to the Alberni Valley Museum and $13,184 to the Community Arts Council of the Alberni Valley. Both are local arts and cultural organizations in Port Alberni.
