More than 200 students will start the 2012-13 school year at Begbie View Elementary.
This new, $15.4-million school is almost complete and will be ready for building inspection by the end of August. The new facility will accommodate up to 80 kindergarten and 250 elementary school students.
Begbie View Elementary will include an on-site Neighbourhood Learning Centre (NLC) to serve the local community. At the NLC, families will be able to access four child-care centres, as well as early-learning, literacy, and health services. The NLC will also feature a 200-square-metre gymnastics facility that will be open to the public.
Located on the previous site of Revelstoke Secondary school, Begbie View Elementary replaces Mountain View Elementary and Mount Begbie Elementary in the Revelstoke school district (SD 19). Construction of the new school started in August 2010, and it is on time and on budget.
The school is built to the latest Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold or equivalent environmental standards.
