The BC Coroners Service has confirmed the identity of two women who died following a jet-boating incident near Prince George on May 6, 2012.
The two were among four persons on a jet-boat that capsized on the Willow River about 40 km northeast of Prince George on the afternoon of May 6. The other two occupants of the boat were able to make it to safety, but the two women were unable to do so.
One body was recovered on the evening on May 6 downstream from the site of the incident. The second body was recovered on the morning of May 7 near a logjam at the site of the capsizing.
The two have been identified as Christy Schwing, 31, and Carolyn Simpson, 43. Both resided in Prince George.
The families of Ms. Schwing and Ms. Simpson have been notified. On behalf of the families, the Coroners Service asks that the media respect their privacy.
The BC Coroners Service offers its condolences to the families and friends of Ms. Schwing and Ms. Simpson, and its appreciation for the work done by search-and-rescue crews, volunteers and RCMP in the search and recovery efforts.
