The BC Coroners Service has confirmed the identity of a male found deceased on Bowen Island on May 20, 2012.

After an exhaustive post-mortem investigation and with co-operation between the BC Coroners Service, the Sea to Sky RCMP and Bowen Island RCMP detachments, the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) and the Vancouver Police Department's Missing Persons Unit, the male was determined to be Mitchell Gallivan.

Mr. Gallivan, aged 19, of Vancouver, was reported missing to the Vancouver Police Department in October 2011. He had completed his first year of engineering at UBC at the time of his disappearance.

An autopsy and thorough investigation have ruled out foul play in Mr. Gallivan's death.

The family of Mr. Gallivan has been notified of his death. On behalf of the family, the BC Coroners Service asks that the media respect their privacy at this difficult time.
