The BC Coroners Service has confirmed the identity of a man whose body was found on Cabin Point Beach in East Sooke Park on May 30, 2012, as Cory Patrick Mykyte, aged 32, a resident of Edmonton, Alberta.
Mr. Mykyte is believed to have travelled to the Victoria area from his home on May 29 and had set up a campsite in East Sooke Park. On May 30, a hiker on the Juan de Fuca trail spotted Mr. Mykyte's body on the rocky beach about 10 metres below the trail. Investigation has ruled out any suggestion of foul play in the death.
Mr. Mykyte's family has been notified of his death. On behalf of the family, the BC Coroners Service asks that the media respect their privacy at this difficult time.
The BC Coroners Service expresses its condolences to Mr. Mykyte's family and friends, and its thanks for the assistance of the Sooke RCMP detachment, RCMP Marine Unit and Juan de Fuca Search and Rescue in this investigation.
With this identification confirmed, it is noted that this person was NOT Daniel Gandza, a male from Victoria who has been missing since April.
