Co-operative agreements and interjurisdictional partnerships have ensured resources and technical expertise to assist in emergency response efforts to flooding said Shirley Bond, Minister of Justice and Attorney General.

British Columbia emergency response officials are working with federal and provincial partners to arrange for the effective and efficient sharing of resources during the current flooding.

"Co-operation is essential when emergencies occur," said Bond. "We are grateful for the resources and expertise provided by our provincial, federal and international partners."

The Province, through the Provincial Emergency Coordination Centre (PECC), has been working to source needed resources. The Province of Saskatchewan is providing staff with technical flood expertise, as well as approximately eight kilometres of gabion dikes and five sandbagging machines.

The PECC has been in contact with Alberta (City of Calgary) Emergency Social Services (ESS) to discuss sharing ESS information and resources. Additionally, B.C. is engaged with Alberta to share resources, such as the acquisition of additional transportation liners that assist in the movement of livestock.

In the event that B.C. requires additional resources, Canadian Forces in Edmonton, Esquimalt and Vancouver are on a continuous standing alert.

Public Safety Canada, in agreement with the Canadian Space Agency, is delivering satellite imagery data that assists emergency officials with enhanced situational awareness.

Additionally, the Pacific Northwest Emergency Management Arrangement (PNEMA) strengthens B.C.'s readiness and emergency response relationships and helps ensure the public safety of British Columbians and our U.S. neighbours.

The Provincial Emergency Coordination Centre (PECC) works collaboratively and co-ordinates with numerous ministries, including Transportation and Infrastructure; Environment; Health; Agriculture; and Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations (Wildfire Management Branch, Water Stewardship Branch, River Forecast Centre, Dam Safety), as well as BC Hydro.
