Minister of Justice Shirley Bond has issued the following statement:
"I understand that these are very challenging times for those who have been impacted by the recent flooding around the province. Some regions were hit hard, in particular the area around Sicamous. I understand the concerns shared by residents, as my own community faces flood challenges as well. I'm always heartened by the spirit of community as neighbours reach out and help each other. Through comfort and support, we come together as we move through the recovery stage.
"We are working hard with communities on recovery plans as they begin the cleanup process.
We are supporting the needs of local authorities as they face the days and weeks ahead. We are looking at new ways to help on the ground, like supporting the Red Cross Resilience Centre and Rapid Damage Assessment Team. By supporting volunteer groups, organizations, and agencies we can help citizens, businesses and communities begin the process of getting back to their lives and livelihoods."
