The BC Coroners Service has confirmed the identity of a male pilot who died when his private aircraft crashed near Williams Lake on June 30, 2012.
The deceased is Montague (Monty) Edward Exton, aged 77, from Williams Lake.
Mr. Exton's plane, a privately owned Cessna 185 Float Plane, was reported missing after he failed to return from a routine flight on the evening of June 30, 2012.
Search and Rescue personnel located the aircraft at a crash site on the bank of the Fraser River and Mr. Exton was confirmed deceased at the scene. No other occupants were on board the flight.
The BC Coroners Service, with the assistance of the Transportation Safety Board and the RCMP, is continuing to investigate this death.
The family of Mr. Exton has been notified of his death. On behalf of the family, the BC Coroners Service asks that the media respect their privacy at this difficult time.
The BC Coroners Service expresses its condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Exton and its appreciation to search and rescue personnel for their assistance at the crash site.
