The BC Coroners Service has confirmed the identity of a man who drowned in a boating incident on Leighton Lake on Sept. 25, 2012.
The man is James Cecil Smith, aged 64, of Sorrento.
Mr. Smith had been fishing from a boat on the lake, located in the Tunkwa Provincial Park. Shortly thereafter, he was heard to call for help and was observed in the water.
Witnesses pulled Mr. Smith from the water and attempted resuscitation efforts, which were continued by attending emergency personnel. Despite the efforts of emergency personnel, Mr. Smith could not to be revived.
The family of Mr. Smith has been notified of his death. On behalf of family members, the BC Coroners Service asks that media respect their privacy at this difficult time.
The BC Coroners Service expresses its condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Smith.
