The BC Coroners Service has confirmed the identity of a man who died as a result of a kayaking accident near Whistler on Sep. 28, 2012.
The man is Peter Jared Thompson, aged 19, from Canmore, Alberta.
Mr. Thompson was kayaking on the Cheakamus River near the Loggers Lake access point when he failed to resurface after attempting to negotiate a waterfall.
An ongoing search for Mr. Thompson ended on Oct. 13 when he and his kayak were located by a group of kayakers in the same area in which he was last seen.
The Coroners Service continues to investigate this death.
The family of Mr. Thompson has been notified of his death. On behalf of the family, the Coroners Service asks that the media respect their privacy at this difficult time.
The BC Coroners Service expresses its condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Thompson and its thanks to Whistler RCMP and Search and Rescue personnel for their assistance with this case.
