The BC Coroners Service has confirmed the identity of man who died in hospital after sustaining a gunshot wound in a police-involved shooting incident in New Westminster on Nov. 8, 2012.

The man is Mehrdad Bayrami, aged 48, from Richmond.

Mr. Bayrami was involved in a police shooting incident on Nov. 8 at the Starlight Casino in New Westminster where he sustained a gunshot wound to his abdomen.

Mr. Bayrami was transported to Royal Columbian Hospital and was undergoing treatment for his injuries when he died on Nov. 18, 2012.

The BC Coroners Service and the Independent Investigations Office continue to investigate this death.

The family of Mr. Bayrami has been notified of his death. On behalf of the family, the BC Coroners Service asks that the media respect their privacy at this difficult time.

The BC Coroners Service expresses its condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Bayrami.
