The BC Coroners Service has confirmed the identity of a man who died after being struck by a vehicle in Nanaimo on Nov. 23, 2012.
He was Claude Joseph Peter Gauthier, aged 78, from Nanaimo.
Mr. Gauthier was walking across Dufferin Crescent in Nanaimo at about 5:30 p.m. on Nov. 23 when he was struck by a vehicle. Conditions at the time included heavy fog with much-reduced visibility.
Mr. Gauthier was transported to Nanaimo Regional General Hospital, which is only about 100 metres from the scene of the incident. However, his injuries were too severe and he died shortly after arrival at hospital.
The BC Coroners Service and RCMP Traffic Services continue to investigate this incident.
The family of Mr. Gauthier has been notified of his death. On behalf of family members, the BC Coroners Service asks that the media respect their privacy at this difficult time.
