The BC Coroners Service has confirmed the identity of a woman who died after a motor vehicle incident at Wood Lake on Dec. 19, 2012.
She was Elly Collins, aged 59, of Salmon Arm.
Ms. Collins was the driver and sole occupant of a vehicle that was involved in a single-vehicle incident on Highway 97 at Wood Lake in the early afternoon of Dec. 19. Ms. Collins was heading northbound on Highway 97 when her vehicle went out of control and into the lake. Passersby and first responders made heroic efforts to get Ms. Collins out of the lake, but it was several minutes before she could be extricated from the vehicle. She was rushed to hospital in Kelowna, but resuscitation efforts were not successful.
The Coroners Service and RCMP continue to investigate this death.
The family of Ms. Collins has been notified of her death. On behalf of family members, the Coroners Service asks that the media respect their privacy at this difficult time.
