Premier Christy Clark released the following statement in honour of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee:
"Today marks the 60th anniversary of the ascension to the throne by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
"Over these 60 years, the Queen's reign has been marked by dignity, duty and service to her people, including Canadians and British Columbians. She has supported our country and province as we've grown and forged our place and reputation on the world's stage.
"Her Majesty is no stranger to British Columbia. She has visited more than a dozen cities, towns and communities during her four tours to our province, including in 1971 to mark the centennial anniversary of B.C. joining Confederation. Her most recent visit to our province was in 2002, when she and the Duke of Edinburgh joined us in celebrating her Golden Jubilee.
"The Diamond Jubilee is opportunity for all British Columbians to reflect on, celebrate and honour our Queen's remarkable reign.
"On behalf of the Province, I thank Her Majesty the Queen for her 60 years of selfless service to the United Kingdom, the Commonwealth, Canada and British Columbia."
