Premier Christy Clark released the following statement today congratulating B.C.'s Olympic athletes and wishing them well as they perform at the 2012 London Olympic Summer Games:
"On behalf of all British Columbians I wish Canada's Olympians all the best as you represent Canada at the 2012 London Olympic Summer Games. I look forward to celebrating your success many times over the next two weeks like we did during the 2010 Vancouver Olympic Winter Games.
"I'm proud that 110 of the 277 Canadian Athletes have a B.C. connection, either being born here or training here with support from the B.C. sport system.
"Along with your parents and family members who have contributed countless hours and resources to your success, I know all British Columbians will be cheering on all of our Canadian athletes as you participate in your events.
"I also congratulate the 52 coaches and technical, medical and support team members who call B.C. home.
"Whether you're an athlete, a coach, or on the support team, each one of you is a role model, showing us what we can achieve when we deliver our very best. And after all your hard work preparing for your moment in the spotlight, today's Opening Ceremonies are just the beginning.
"As we watch you perform over the weeks ahead, we'll all remember the feelings we are experiencing on this opening day - the excitement, the optimism, and the possibilities of the Olympic Games."
