Premier Christy Clark issued the following statement in celebration of the start of Chanukah:
"I would like to extend my best wishes to British Columbia's Jewish community for Chanukah.
"Over the next 8 days, Jewish families throughout B.C. will gather to tell the story of the Maccabbees and the miracles of Chanukah.
"Chanukah's traditions go back thousands of years, yet its customs live on in all corners of the world, including here in British Columbia.
"The celebration of Chanukah not only strengthens B.C.'s Jewish community, but the province's diversity and cultural richness as a whole.
"It's holidays like Chanukah that serve as a reminder of the importance of family and spending time with loved ones.
"I wish British Columbia's Jewish community a very Happy Chanukah. Chag sameach."
