VICTORIA -Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Blair Lekstrom has designated a new chair and has appointed four prominent municipal leaders from the capital region to the Victoria Regional Transit Commission (VRTC).
New appointments to the seven-member VRTC are:
- Mayor Larry Cross (Sidney)
- Mayor Barb Desjardins (Esquimalt)
- Mayor Carol Hamilton (Colwood)
- Councillor Marianne Alto (Victoria)
Lekstrom has designated current VRTC member Susan Brice as chair. Brice is a Saanich councillor.
The four new appointments join Brice, Victoria Mayor Dean Fortin and Saanich Mayor Frank Leonard on the VRTC.

Quick Facts:
- The VRTC is appointed by the Lieutenant Governor in Council from people holding elected office, chosen from municipalities specified in the British Columbia Transit Act.
- Two members of the VRTC are appointed as directors of BC Transit under the provisions of the British Columbia Transit Act.
- The VRTC is responsible for determining fares, routes and service levels, as well as reviewing and making recommendations for the annual operating budget and capital spending, and raising the local share of the annual cost of transit service in the Victoria region.
