The Province has awarded a contract to resurface a section of Shawnigan Lake Road and Cowichan Bay Road to ensure motorist safety and improve road conditions.
The project includes resurfacing a 1.2-km section of Shawnigan Lake Road between the south Shawnigan Lake Road entrance and the railroad crossing, south of Mill Bay. In addition, a 1.3-km section of Cowichan Bay Road between Highway 1 and Tzouhalem Road, south of Duncan, will be resurfaced.
A $700,000 contract was awarded to Duncan Paving to carry out the work, which is scheduled to begin this week and finish in late June. Motorists can expect single-lane alternating traffic during construction, Monday to Friday.
Since 2001, approximately $548 million has been invested in annual contracted road and bridge maintenance work on Vancouver Island.
