Registration with TReO, the tolling system on the new Port Mann Bridge, has been open only since Sept. 17, but more than 200,000 vehicles have already been registered for electronic tolling accounts and decals.

Registered vehicles with accounts are the key to TI Corp running a lean, efficient tolling operation. When a vehicle is registered with a payment mechanism on file, that reduces TI Corp's administrative costs and the number of invoices mailed to customers. This keeps TI Corp's costs low, and in return keeps tolls low for drivers.

To encourage early registration, incentives are being offered for drivers to sign up for TReO accounts. Drivers who register by Feb. 28, 2013, will keep the half-price introductory toll rate until December 2013.

As a further incentive, drivers who sign up before Nov. 30, 2012, will receive a $30 credit on their account, equivalent to 20 free trips for small passenger vehicles. Drivers who do not register by Feb. 28, 2013, or instead choose the pay-as-you-go option will have their toll rates increase to $3.00 on March 1, 2013.

TReO staff can register people by telephone at 604-516-TREO (8736) or in person at the Coquitlam and Surrey service centres located at either end of the Port Mann Bridge.

In order to register vehicles, drivers will need their contact information as it appears on their ICBC Autoplan vehicle insurance, their licence plate number and payment information.

The new Port Mann Bridge is scheduled to officially open with eight lanes in December. The first week of operation will be toll-free.

Once complete, the new Port Mann Bridge will eliminate the worst traffic bottleneck in British Columbia, reducing commute times by up to 50 per cent and saving drivers as much as an hour per day to spend with their families.
