Environment Minister Terry Lake has asked the provincial wildlife veterinarian and conservation officer staff to work with an Ucluelet woman, Janet Schwartz, and her 'pet' deer Bimbo.

Government officials, including trained biologists, veterinarians and conservation officers are concerned about the extreme habituation of this animal. While these professionals understand the risks associated with the removal of an animal that has become so accustomed to a home setting, the need to examine the health of Bimbo and her environs remains necessary.

A team of experts will be working with Ms Schwartz to ensure the continued safety of Bimbo who according to published reports, was found and "adopted" by Schwartz in 2004.

"As a veterinarian I am very aware of the bonding that takes place between people and their pets," said Lake. "I am confident that by working with the provincial veterinarian and trained Conservation officer staff, Ms. Schwartz will be able to follow a plan of care that will see her and Bimbo continue to live together."

It's expected a plan of care will be established within the week.
