Amendments to the Auditor General Act introduced by Finance Minister Michael de Jong today would establish a single, non-renewable eight-year term for the position of auditor general.
The amendments also would ensure the legislative assembly has the authority to appoint an acting auditor general in those circumstances where the term of office of the auditor general is set to expire or otherwise end in the time period during the dissolution of the legislative assembly.
Under the current legislation, the auditor general may be appointed for a six-year term with the possibility of reappointment for a term of up to six years.
