The BC Coroners Service has confirmed the identity of a man who died following an airplane crash near Crawford Bay on June 12, 2013.
He was Anthony Arnold (Tony) Quibell, aged 53, of Nelson.
Mr. Quibell was the pilot and sole occupant of a Cessna Skymaster 337 airplane, which took off from Nelson airport at about 1:30 p.m. on June 12 for a flight to Saskatchewan. The plane was reported missing later that evening when it had failed to arrive at its destination.
Early the next morning, the wreckage of the plane was spotted in a heavily treed area at the 6,500-foot level of a mountain near Crawford Bay. Mr. Quibell was deceased at the scene.
The BC Coroners Service and the Transportation Safety Board continue to investigate this death.
The family of Mr. Quibell has been notified of his death. On behalf of family members, the BC Coroners Service asks that the media respect their privacy at this difficult time.
