The BC Coroners Service has confirmed the identity of a man who died as a result of a snowmobile incident that occurred near Valemount on Jan. 8, 2013.

The man was Richard Allan McDonald, aged 61, from Kamloops.

Mr. McDonald had been operating a snowmobile along the clearing between the roadway and tree line of Highway 5, near Valemount, when the incident occurred.

Emergency personnel attended the scene of the incident and transported Mr. McDonald to the Valemount Health Unit where he was confirmed deceased on Jan. 9 after resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful.

The BC Coroners Service and RCMP Traffic Services continue to investigate this death.

The family of Mr. McDonald has been notified of his death. On behalf of family members, the BC Coroners Service asks that the media respect their privacy at this difficult time.
