The BC Coroners Service has confirmed the identity of a male who died following a motor vehicle incident near Hixon on Jan. 28, 2013.

He was Balwinder Singh Gill, aged 53, of Surrey.

Mr. Gill was the driver and sole occupant of an empty tractor-trailer unit, which was travelling southbound on Highway 97 near Hixon in the early afternoon of Jan. 28. A northbound Super-B unit (tractor and two trailer units) fully loaded with lumber crossed over the centreline and collided head on with Mr. Gill's vehicle. Mr. Gill was deceased at the scene.

Road conditions at the time were described as slippery, and it was snowing lightly.

The BC Coroners Service, WorkSafe BC and the RCMP continue to investigate this death.

The family of Mr. Gill has been notified of his death. On behalf of family members, the BC Coroners Service asks that the media respect their privacy at this difficult time.
