The BC Coroners Service has confirmed the identity of a woman who died as a result of a snowboarding accident near Blackcomb on March 27, 2013.

The woman was Wan Xin Jin, aged 23. She was a university student from China visiting with a group of fellow-students.

The group was snowboarding on March 27 and split up during the morning. When Ms. Jin did not meet as planned later in the afternoon, other members of the group reported her missing. Search-and-rescue teams found her the next morning in a creek in the out-of-bounds area near Blackcomb. She was deceased at the scene.

The BC Coroners Service and RCMP continue to investigate this death.

The family of Ms. Jin has been notified of her death. On behalf of the family, the BC Coroners Service asks that the media respect their privacy at this difficult time.

The BC Coroners Service expresses its condolences to the family and friends of Ms. Jin and its thanks to Whistler Search and Rescue personnel and the RCMP for their assistance with this case.
