The BC Coroners Service has confirmed the identity of a man who died following a skiing incident near Rogers Pass on April 22, 2013.
He was Joshua Matthew Bernot, aged 30, of Kelowna.
Mr. Bernot was on the second day of a two-day back-country ski excursion with a friend. While skiing in an area of Glacier National Park known as Young's Peak about 12:30 p.m., he was witnessed to fall about 16 meters down a cliff. The friend and other nearby skiers summoned help as quickly as possible, but despite a rapid response from national parks staff and first responders, Mr. Bernot was deceased at the scene.
The Coroners Service and RCMP continue to investigate this death.
The family of Mr. Bernot has been notified of his death. On behalf of family members, the Coroners Service asks that the media respect their privacy at this difficult time.
