The BC Coroners Service has confirmed the identity of a youth who died in a swimming incident near Hazelton on June 16, 2013.
The youth is Kurtis Greg Adams, aged 16, from Hazelton.
Mr. Adams and two friends went to Seeley Lake Provincial Park on the afternoon of June 16 and decided to swim out from shore to an island known as Turtle Island. Before reaching Turtle Island, Mr. Adams was noted to be in distress, and he did not reach the island. The friends were able to call for help, and RCMP found Mr. Adams in about two metres of water shortly afterwards. He was deceased at the scene.
The BC Coroners Service is continuing to investigate this death.
The family of Mr. Adams has been notified of his death. On behalf of the family, the BC Coroners Service asks that the media respect their privacy at this difficult time.
